In the app
In Lately (called Lately Dating in the App Store and Google Play):
- Tap You.
- Under Settings, tap Account.
- Tap Delete account. You can tell us why, if you like.
- Tap Delete my account.
It happens straight away and can’t be undone. You’re signed out on every device. Uninstalling the app on its own doesn’t delete your account.
Just need a break?
Pause instead: You → Settings → Pause profile, for a week or until you come back. While you’re paused, you aren’t suggested to anyone. Your profile, photos and chats stay, and you can come back whenever you like.
Want a copy first?
Go to You → Settings → Account → Download your data. We make you a file with your profile, photos, moments, chats and more, and the link works for 7 days. Once your account is deleted, we can’t make one any more.
Have Lately Plus?
Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a subscription. Cancel it first in your App Store or Google Play subscriptions, so you aren’t charged again.
What’s deleted straight away
- Your profile: your photos, answers, interests and moments, and details like your date of birth, gender, height, job and location.
- Your filters, who you’d like to meet, your religion if you shared it, your notification settings and your devices.
- Your email address.
- Your open hellos, the ones you sent and the ones you received.
- Your chats end with a kind goodbye from Lately, so nobody’s left wondering: “Sam has left Lately. Thanks for the chats, and good luck out there.”
Your first name stays for a short while, so the people you were talking to can see who the goodbye is about. It goes with the rest of your account after 30 days.
What we keep, and for how long
A few things stay for a set time, to keep people safe and where the law asks us to. We don’t use them for anything else.
- Your messages: stored encrypted for 30 days after a chat ends, so either of you can still report something. Then they’re deleted. The same goes for the words of a hello, 30 days after it closes.
- The rest of your account, like your first name and the date you left: 30 days, then it’s deleted for good. If a report about you is still open, we keep it until that case is closed.
- Reports: if you reported someone, or someone reported you, the report and the messages or photos copied with it are kept for 2 years after the case is closed. So are decisions about your account, and any appeal.
- Blocks: a scrambled code made from your Apple or Google sign-in, so a block still holds if either of you signs up again.
- If we closed your account for breaking our rules: a scrambled code made from your Apple or Google sign-in, for 3 years, so the same account can’t simply sign up again.
- Purchases: if you had Lately Plus, the App Store or Google Play keep their own records. We keep a record of your subscription for 2 years.
- Our team’s log: if someone on our team looked at or acted on your account, the record of that is kept for 2 years.
- Backups: we keep them for 30 days, so any copy of your data in a backup is gone within 30 days.
If the law requires us to keep something for longer, for example because the police asked us to, we keep only that, and only for as long as we must.
Without the app
Can’t use the app? Mail [email protected] from the email address on your Lately account (the one your Apple or Google sign-in shared with us), and ask us to delete your account. We’ll check it’s you, and confirm by email once it’s done, within one month.
Can’t write from that address? Tell us, and we’ll find another way to check it’s you. On our waiting list too? Say so, and we’ll take you off that as well.
More about your data is in our privacy policy.
