Who we are
Lately is a dating app and website, run by Lately, Amsterdam. We’re responsible for your personal data under the GDPR (AVG). Questions or requests: [email protected].
What we collect in the app
- Account: your phone number or Apple/Google sign-in, name, date of birth and gender.
- Profile: your photos, your written answers, your moments, and the basics you choose to show (like work or wanting kids).
- Who you’d like to meet: the gender(s) you’re interested in, an age range, a distance and your height preference. This can say something about your sexual orientation, which is sensitive data. We only use it with your explicit consent, and only to suggest people.
- Location: your approximate location, to find people near you and show a rough distance. We never show your exact location to anyone.
- Verification: a selfie to check that you’re the person in your photos. We use it only for verification and safety.
- Activity: your hellos, conversations and day-three choices, reports and blocks, and basic device and usage information to keep the app working and safe.
What we collect on this website
- Visits, counted with Pirsch: cookie-free analytics that doesn’t track you across sites.
- Meta pixel, only if you say yes in the cookie banner (see Cookies).
- Waitlist: if you joined our waitlist when we were still called Vonk, we have your email, city, gender and age. We use it to tell you about the launch. Ask us and we’ll delete it.
Why we use it
- To run Lately: your profile, daily suggestions, hellos and conversations (our agreement with you).
- To suggest people you might click with, based on what you share and who you’d like to meet (with your consent where sensitive).
- To keep Lately safe: verification, fighting fake profiles and scams, handling reports (our legitimate interest and legal duties).
- To improve the app, using aggregated statistics (our legitimate interest).
- To send you notifications you’ve switched on, like when your three are here.
We don’t use automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Who we share it with
We never sell your personal data. Other people on Lately see what you put on your profile, your rough distance and your moments. We use a small number of service providers to run Lately, for hosting in the EU, sending text messages and notifications, and checking selfies. They process data only on our instructions, under a data processing agreement. We share data with the authorities only when the law requires it or to protect someone’s safety.
How long we keep it
- Moments disappear from Lately after 7 days.
- When you delete your account, we delete your profile, photos and messages within 30 days.
- We keep a minimal record of reports and bans for longer, so people who were removed for abuse can’t simply come back, and to meet legal obligations.
Your rights
You can see, correct, download or delete your data, object to how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. Most of this you can do yourself in the app under You → Account. For anything else, mail [email protected]. We reply within a month. You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Cookies
This website counts visits with Pirsch, which uses no cookies. If you agree in the cookie banner, we also load the Meta pixel, which sets cookies (such as _fbp) and sends information about your visit to Meta Platforms Ireland, so we can see which of our ads bring people here. Without your OK, it doesn’t load. You can change your choice any time via Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
Age
Lately is for people aged 18 and over. We remove accounts of anyone younger.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
